The Top 5 features of the F-150 Lightning®

Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat

The Ford F-150 is part of the F-Series, which has been the best-selling truck in Canada for decades*. And now, the F-150 Lightning® brings the same versatility, style and utility but with an all-electric drivetrain. This purpose-built, ground-breaking truck has a plethora of fun and functional features and here, we’ll go through five of its best.

Ford F-150 Lightning

Ford F-150 Lightning

Spacious 400 litre ‘frunk’

With the absence of the traditional engine beneath the hood, the F-150 Lightning ® adds useful space with a front trunk compartment, or what is called a ‘frunk’. With a generous 400 litres (14.1 cubic feet) of space and a weight load of 400 pounds^, the practicality of going electric is heightened.

The hood lifts up with the grille, creating a lower load floor and making it easier to load and unload your items. The cargo area is also washable and drainable, and it’s sealed so dirt/mud/rain/snow won’t enter it as you drive. Add to that the grocery hooks, tie-downs, a multi-purpose lid divider and a handy available cargo, net and this versatile space simply makes daily life easier.

Pro Power Onboard™ for a portable work generator

With the copious amounts of power housed within the F-150 Lightning ® batteries, it only makes sense to harvest some of that power and use it for other purposes aside from keeping you in motion.

For larger jobs, the 9.6 kW Pro Power Onboard TM† system is available on the Pro and standard on XLT, Lariat and Platinum models. So if you need to frame a house or host an extreme tailgate party, the 9.6kW has you covered. The 2.4kW system, standard on the Pro trim level, can also give you enough to power to complete smaller jobs such as building a deck or powering a campsite.

Both feature ten 120-volt outlets, with four in the bed, two in the cabin, and four in the “frunk”. The 9.6 kW system also features a 240 volt/30-amp outlet in the bed.

Simply put, Pro Power OnboardTM transforms your F-150 Lightning ® into a mobile power generator. For work or play, you just bring the power with you wherever you go.

Intelligent Backup Power (available with the Ford Charge Station Pro 80-amp system)

In emergency situations where home electricity is down, you don’t have to be in the dark with the Intelligent Backup Power, available with the Ford Charge Station Pro 80-amp system. Available later this year, the system allows you to power your home for up to three days with your F-150 Lightning® extended range battery when properly equipped◊

Intelligent Range

A revolutionary truck deserves revolutionary technology, and the F-150 Lightning® has just that via the advanced ‘Intelligent Range’^^ feature.

Unloaded, the F-150 with standard-range battery gets a range of 370 km, while the extended-range battery offers up to 515 km, and the Platinum model will reach 483 km▲. And with the maximum available towing of up to 10,000 lbs‡, the F-150 Lightning was intended to be a workhorse for those who need to pull a trailer. With Intelligent Range, the cloud-connected technology analyzes energy use with data from various sources, including other Ford electric trucks that have towed over similar conditions (similar roads with similar trailers), providing an accurate update for the battery range either while driving or stationary.

Intelligent Range works with the Power My Trip feature to offer more accurate predictions by factoring in real-time traffic conditions, the terrain and elevation of your route, and even the temperature at your final destination, on top of the impacts of an attached trailer and/or payload weight.

The SYNC® 4A infotainment system

On the Lariat and Platinum models with available 15.5-inch infotainment screens, the newest developed SYNC® 4A¥ infotainment system has seen cutting edge technology integrated in some Ford offerings. Highlights include cloud connectivity, voice recognition, machine learning capabilities and personalized preferences based on previous behaviours, and a digital owner’s manual.

And Adaptive Dash Cards present the driver’s most recently and most used features at the top of the screen, making the system even easier and more intuitive to use.
