If it felt like General Motors pumped the brakes on its roll-out of the Cadillac Lyriq EV, well, that’s probably because the automaker only delivered 122 Cadillac Lyriq EV models in 2022. This was disappointing news for many luxury EV lovers, as the Lyriq has up to 502 kilometres of range and a starting price $70,597. In fact, fans of the automaker may remember that GM had to close Cadillac Lyriq to orders after only 19 minutes back in May, after approximately 233,000 people reportedly expressed interest in the vehicle.
However, according to GM, the slow roll-out of the Lyriq was for a reason. “We deliberately ramped up Cadillac Lyriq production slowly and methodically last year to ensure quality for our customers”, shared a spokesperson from Cadillac, Michael Albano. “Looking ahead, we will continue to ramp up production in 2023 in order to meet the strong demand for Lyriq.”
Albano’s statement aligns with comments made in 2020 by GM’s North American President, Steve Carlisle, who warned that production of the Lyriq would be “restricted” as they ramped up. Fortunately, though, with a stockpile of 2023 Cadillac Lyriq models, GM says it’s now confident in its process going forward.
