Build Your Dreams (BYD), the Chinese Automaker which first began delivering electric vehicles in 2008, has shared pre-sale pricing for its first three vehicles slated for delivery overseas. During a premiere presentation, BYD revealed the three EVs destined for the European market: the Han sedan, Tang SUV, and Atto 3 SUV. The Atto 3 is the most affordable of the lineup, starting at a pre-sale price of €38,000 ($50,800), with the other two EVs starting at a pre-sale price of €72,000 ($96,000).
Since EV affordability is a hot topic right now, especially amidst price hikes and supply chain challenges, the Atto 3 is sure to delight European consumers who are eager to transition to an affordable C-segment EV. It’s important to note, however, that these prices are for the German market in particular, and BYD says prices will vary by European country.
For those unfamiliar with the brand, BYD is an automotive subsidiary of BYD Co. Ltd., and is currently operating as one of the largest auto manufacturers in China, having produced more than 320,000 BEVs last year alone. In 2008, BYD launched a plug-in hybrid version of its F3 sedan, and in 2020, the automaker launched its Tang EV in Norway.
BYD has specified that its immediate focus will be to take orders from European consumers in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany. From there, the automaker hopes to expand its delivery scope to include the UK and France before year’s end.
“Europe is the birthplace of the auto-industry and has a strong spirit of innovation. Europeans are making a concerted effort to accelerate the transformation of automobile electrification, with Europe representing the main driving market for the advancement of new energy vehicles,” said BYD chairman and founder Wang Chuanfu. “As such, we are pleased that BYD can now grow electric car adoption simultaneously with the local markets. We look forward to working together with respected European dealers and industry partners to create high-end quality products with green technology, and bring diversified choices and experiences to more consumers.”
BYD is expected to share full details, specifications, and finalized pricing next month during the Paris Motor Show 2022.
