The time has finally come — Ford has begun deliveries of the highly anticipated F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck. Following the start of production last month, the automaker is now fulfilling initial orders of the electric pickup to select fleet customers and retail customers.
To celebrate the occasion, the very first retail customer reported the delivery of their F-150 to the Lightning Forum. According to the post, the Michigan resident reserved a Platinum Trim Lightning in late May of last year. In January 2022, the reservation was transferred into order, and it was built on April 18th, 2022 (notably, before Ford officially announced the start of production).
Ford is planning to nearly double production capacity of the all-electric F-150 Lightning™ pickup to 150,000 vehicles per year at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan, to meet soaring customer demand
The consumer response to the F-150 Lightning was no surprise, considering the gas-powered F-150 is the best-selling passenger vehicle in North America. After announcing the electric pickup, Ford received a staggering 200,000 reservations which prompted the automaker to increase production rate to 150,000 units by the end of next year. Currently, it’s estimated that 40,000 Ford customers can expect to receive their F-150 before the end of the year.
Next year, we have a number of electric pickup trucks joining the F-150, including the Silverado Electric and the Tesla Cybertruck. The Rivian R1T electric pickup, which has also generated a great deal of buzz, began deliveries late last year and has a few thousand units delivered.
