Could EV-specific tires enhance EV performance by increasing mileage? Hankook Tire & Technology, the South Korean tire company founded over 80 years ago thinks so. Earlier this year, the company announced its lineup of EV-specific, iON evo all season tires which were designed to support electric sedans and SUVs. Now, less than a year later, Hankook has begun selling the highly anticipated tires.
Hankook’s iON evo AS tires come in 26 different sizes and promise to help reduce noise and maximize range. In a press release, Hankook Tire detailed the specifications of its new line of iON evo AS tires, which support rim diameters between 18 and 22 inches.
“The iON evo AS and iON evo AS SUV are built with Hankook’s EVolution compound, composed of high-concentration silica and eco-friendly materials, designed to evenly spread road pressure to extend tire life and provide healthier tire conditions,” read the press release. “Hankook’s optimized curing technology and advanced compound also reduces rolling resistance, which enhances battery life and extends mileage.” Hankook’s tires also noise-proof technology, increased grip and rigidity, and come with a 50,000-mileage warranty.
“The iON evo AS and iON evo AS SUV were developed for the EV driver that wants to maximize their driving experience without sacrificing the unique benefits of this new class of vehicle,” said Kijong Kil, Vice President of RE Development. “Hankook’s EVolution technology, Hankook Sound Absorber and EV Contour Technology come together as the basis for an innovative, all-season tire that delivers outstanding results for EVs.”
Hankook has also been selected by the FIA to debut the Hankook iON race tire at the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in January 2023.
