An ‘Untamed Edition’ of MINI’s Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 will be exclusively launched in Canada later this month, complete with hybrid powertrain.
Marketed as the most robust example of MINI’s all-wheel drive Cooper SE Countryman SUV – cosmetically at least – the Untamed Edition will make its debut at the MINI United event in Kelowna, British Columbia, on August 27-28, with sales set to start soon after.
Its purpose? To encourage MINI drivers to “venture beyond the city limits” and “explore new roads and pathways.” Not a hard thing to do in Canada!
Aesthetically, there are very few changes to the MINI’s bodywork, the Untamed Edition’s main selling point being a new and exclusive metallic Momentum Grey exterior paint. The same accent colour will feature on the lower air intake surround, on the side sills and along the rear apron to “underscore [the Countryman’s] untamed character.” The background to the MINI logo on the hood and tailgate will also be finished in Momentum Grey, while roof rails, headlight housings, wing mirror caps, and roof will be finished in contrast Piano Black.
A decal encompassing four diagonal stripes, inspired by mountainscape, will be featured across the driver and passenger doors, and includes an ‘Untamed’ inscription that patrons will also find embossed on the seat headrests, alongside further Frozen Blue accenting in the cabin. The Untamed Edition has also been kitted out with 18-inch ‘Untamed 2-tone design’ alloys.
While MINI Canada draws attention to the “particularly spirited and frugal engine,” it’s unlikely the Untamed Edition will receive any performance upgrades. The hybrid powertrain therefore – which combines a 125 hp 1.5-litre three-cylinder that powers the front axle with TwinPower turbocharger and a 70 kw (95 hp) electric motor that drives the rear wheels – will almost certainly produce an unchanged 220 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque, and an identical 6.8-second 0-100 km/h sprint time.
Prices and production numbers for the Untamed Edition are unlikely to be announced until next week’s MINI United event, though we can reasonably expect that $44,990 starting price for the Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 – plus $9,100 if you want the Premier+ package – to receive a small hike.
