Penske Truck Leasing, located in Reading, Pennsylvania, has ordered 750 Ford E-Transit cargo vans, following its successful pilot of EVs late last year. Fulfillment of the order will reportedly begin over the next several weeks, and Penske’s first Ford E-Transit EVs will be available in Southern California, with other US locations to follow.
This represents exciting new territory for Penske, as these are the first light-duty electric trucks that the rental company is making available to drivers for temporary rentals, as well as full-service leasing. Penske has also reportedly implemented a network of heavy-duty electric high-speed charging stations across Southern California, in anticipation of this shift to E-Transit.
Over the long term, the rental company plans to add more EVs to its wider network of rental and leasing locations across North America. This is great news for local businesses looking to expand their fleet capacity with electrified trucks, either for a temporary rental or a three to five year lease contract.
Upon launching E-Transit last year, Ford revealed it had already booked 10,000 E-Transit orders from about 300 commercial customers. The MSRP price range of the E-Transit starts at US$43,295 in the US, and $60,075 here in Canada, and the vehicle has a range of just over 200 kms with eight configuration options.
