At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this week, Sony gave the world a glimpse at its second EV concept: the Sony Vision-S 02 Crossover SUV. The SUV is a follow up to the Vision-S sedan concept that Sony unveiled at CES two years ago, which the automaker has been testing as a prototype.
The Vision-S 02 is a midsize crossover with seven seats that plans to offer drivers “a sophisticated surround-sound audio system and the ability to play video games via a remote connection to a PlayStation console at home.” Passengers in the front seat will even enjoy a large, panoramic screen. With this in mind, the new concept promises cloud connectivity and 5G compatibility, and the potential for remote operation in the future, according to Sony.
The automaker has yet to reveal specific mechanical details or production plans, but is hinting that the new SUV is one step closer to production. We can also take hints from the Vision-S sedan, which had a 268-horsepower motor at each axle for a combined 536 hp and AWD. According to Sony, the Vision-S will be able to accelerate 0-to-60 mph in under 5.0 seconds. The company has not released information on the battery or range.
Sony also revealed that it has plans to establish a new division called Sony Mobility this spring, which will be focused specifically on EV development.
