In an ever-increasing market of electric vehicles from both mainstream and startup manufacturers, another new name is set to appear here in North America. And its first showcase will be at the LA Auto Show later this month.
Vinfast, based in Vietnam, will have two EVs on display in LA: the e34, a five-seat crossover, and the larger e36, a seven-seat crossover. The company is set to debut the e34 for the Vietnamese market later this year, but it has already released its plans to expand into the Western market, including Canada, with a range of EVs, and targets global sales next year of 15,000 vehicles.
A unique selling point of Vinfast’s vehicles is that they will lease the battery to owners, thereby decreasing the initial cost of the EV itself.
The company plans to open orders for its EVs in the first half of next year and plans to start deliveries later next year, said global CEO Michael Lohscheller in a statement last month. Pricing will be announced just prior to the LA show, which runs November 19 to 28.
