Vietnamese automaker VinFast has held a ceremony to celebrate its first batch of exports of electric SUVs to international markets. With the shipment of 999 VF 8s, VinFast has officially entered the global market, and the first VinFast customers in the US can expect their cars by the end of December.
The batch (which is the first of 65,000 global orders of VF 8 and VF 9 e-SUVs) is expected to arrive in a California port about 20 days after deporting from MPC Port in Haiphong, Vietnam. The automaker plans to maintain this momentum, with VF 8 deliveries to Canada and Europe expected in early 2023.
“The export of the first 999 VF 8s is a significant event for VinFast and Vingroup and a proud historical milestone for the Vietnamese automotive industry,” said Nguyen Viet Quang, Vice Chairman and CEO of Vingroup, at the ceremony. “It affirms that Vietnam has successfully produced high-quality standards electric vehicles that are ready to compete in the international market. We hope that, when VinFast’s smart electric vehicles roll out on the streets around the world, it will help promote the image of a new, dynamic and progressive Vietnam to the global audience.”
VinFast’s luxury electric SUV models, the VF 8 and VF 9, have been met with no shortage of interest from consumers and fleet companies alike, with Autonomy (the largest car subscription service firm in the US) having already ordered 2,500 EVs from the company.
VinFasthas already opened its first Canadian store in Toronto, with seven more due to open soon across the country. It’s also established its US headquarters in November, and will reportedly be opening its first US retail stores in California in July. According to VinFast, this is just the beginning, and the company plans to expand its retail footprint to other states in the future.
For those still eager to get their hands on one of VinFast’s highly anticipated EVs, reservations for the VF 5, VF 6, and VF 7 electric crossover models are expected to open soon.
