Polestar has just announced major upgrades to its five-door Polestar 2 for the 2024 model year that include updated looks, better handling and more power.
The biggest change is in its drivetrain configuration: single-motor models are now rear-wheel drive, while the all-wheel-drive Polestar 2 is now a rear-drive bias with a “completely rebalanced drivetrain setup and torque ratio.” That means when AWD isn’t needed, the rear wheels will power the car as opposed to the front-drive operation it has now, for better driving dynamics.
Next-generation electric motors and inverters offer more power, too: the rear-drive model gets a bump in horsepower from the current 228 to 299, while torque rises from 243 lb-ft to 361 lb-ft.; it will get from 0-100km/h in 6.2 seconds. AWD versions go from 402 hp up to 421, and jump from 486 lb-ft of torque up to 546, with a 0-100km/h time of 4.5 seconds. An available Performance Pack brings that time down to 4.2 seconds, and can be purchased as an over-the-air update for any eligible Long Range Dual Motor vehicles.

North America will only get the 635-km (European cycle estimate) long-range version of the single-motor Polestar 2, with other markets having a standard range model on offer. Our long-range dual-motor setup keeps its 78 kWh battery and 155 kW charging capabilities, but other markets get 82 kWh batteries with up to 205 kW of fast charging.
The revised front fascia now incorporates Polestar’s SmartZone driver assist sensors, including the front facing camera and mid-range radar. The Performance Pack also brings with it 20-inch forged alloy wheels.
Driver Awareness features are now standard, including Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with steering support, Cross Traffic Alert with brake support, and Rear Collision Warning and Mitigation, along with the 360-degree surround view camera and automatic dimming exterior mirrors. The wireless phone charger is now also standard on all versions.
North American markets are expected to begin sales in March, with pricing announced closer to that date.
