Polestar has confirmed that the new Polestar 4 SUV will make its debut at next week’s Shanghai Auto Show, with the Swedish premium brand announcing that the 4 will be “the fastest Polestar production car to date.”
Few details regarding the drivetrain have been revealed, save that the 4 – the latest addition to Polestar’s lineup alongside the ‘2’ hatchback, the ‘3’ SUV – the first such model from Polestar, which was revealed in full last October – and the limited edition, two-door ‘1’. Like the 3, the 4 SUV is expected to feature a dual-motor drivetrain, meaning “the fastest Polestar production car to date” will need to surpass the Polestar 3 Performance’s 517 hp to claim that mantel (the entry level Polestar 3 boasts 489 hp).
Alongside potential Porsche Macan EV-rivalling power, Polestar is promising the design of its new SUV will usher in “a new breed of SUV coupé,” drawing in cues from the brand’s previous concept cars. Though the accompanying teaser image – a birds-eye view of the front left corner – gives little away in terms of the apparent transformative design, nor does Polestar confirm from which concepts the design has drawn inspiration (facets of the ‘Prologue’ design that do not make it to production with the Polestar 5 sedan might be up for grabs), but Polestar design staples like the sleek headlamps and the hood grooves appear to have been carried across.

A reference to “sustainability enhancements” suggest the Polestar 4 coupé’s aerodynamics – already set to be ‘fastback’-like, after its teaser appearance under a sheet last June – are likely to be even sleeker than those on the mid-sized 3, even though cabin space has also been prioritized.
“Polestar 4 is not simply a modified version of our first SUV,” Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath explains. “Instead, we reconsidered the entire design to create a new breed of SUV coupé.”
Ahead of a planned roll-out during Q4 later this year, the Polestar 4 will make its first appearance on Tuesday, April 18, the first day of the Shanghai Auto Show that is due to run until Thursday April 27.
